Swapping from Sourcing to Sinking Output Module

I have a BRX in operation, and due to supply issues, need to swap an output module from Sourcing to Sinking (BX-16TD2 -> BX-16-TD1) and of course the downstream components.  Can this swap be done by powering down, switching modules, and powering back up?  Or does it need to be powered up in PRG mode, and the program changed to reflect the new module?

If it is Auto I/O config, and if memory serves, it will drop into STOP mode when it sees the change. Just need to use the switch to go back to RUN.

If your memory serves, or the PLC's memory serves?

Thanks, I did have it in manual config still, so have updated the PLC to auto config.

Hopefully I can just ship the parts to the onsite electrician and have him do the swap, saving me a trip to the site, or a hasty log in when he discovers it's not working.

Definitely mine. 

In Auto it should be fine. With manual it will definitely complain.
