brx baby

my brx plc and click plc both have ethernet  and i am using 4 port unmanaged ethernet switch. can i connect to both of them at the same time.
right now if i want to connect to one i must disconnect from the other one they both have same ip

Sure. They just need to have different IP addresses.

doesn't the device that one is trying connect have to have the same ip address as the computer?

Just the opposite, they must all be unique. You should consider getting a book on IP network configuration. It's not that hard, but it is important that it is done currently.

I just Googled "IP networking basics" and got several hits on free tutorials. Start there.

The PLC just needs to be able to 'see' the SMTP server or relay, wired or wireless isn't really relevant. Since you are wired to the PC and the PC is connected to the Internet, you might consider an SMTP relay program.

i set up the smtp client device and followed a video i found on youtube set up the email instruction that c50 turns on i get a message couldn't open tcp connection with specified device in email at 0000161  (EMAIL at $Main@249)
any ideas or should i just give up

Lots of ideas, and no, you shouldn't give up.

What is the PLC's IP config (address, netmask, and gateway) and what is the configuration of your router. The PLC can't access anything outside your local network unless this is correct.
