ecom firware problem
« on: November 02, 2011, 08:32:26 AM »
I have and older h2-ecom i went and updated the firmware
I used netedit 3.7 and firmware 1.0.213
it crashed and said the firware i download was bad
but now the ecom shows firmware 0.0.0 and module type ????
if i go back and try anything with updateing it it say i have the wrong firmware for this device
Is there a way to recover the ecom?
or use and older firmware update method to get a firmware on the unit

simply running the update process again should just work, but it sounds like it didn't

the first thing i'd try is installing the latest version of NetEdit (v3.8a) from our web site. Use the Live Update to make sure you have the latest firmware files.

Try updating the boot loader first - if you're not already at the latest version.

The try updating the firmware again, it should just work ...

when i try to update the boot loader i get a "error 212 from downloadbinfile"
the boot version on the ecom is 3.0.95
the new file is 3.0.157
and i also updated netedit to 3.8a

My Ecom had a firware problem.  It went out in public like that and some PETA protester threw paint on it.   :D

LOL Controls Guy...

kaseym, "Error 212 from downloadbinfile" means your current booter (v3.0.95) is not compatible with the version of NetEdit (v3.7 or v3.8a). So I think what you need is an older version of NetEdit so it can update your booter (v3.0.95) to at least v3.0.101 (or as you have attempted, v3.0.157).

To do this I'm going to send you an e-mail with an application that you can execute from a Command Line. I have your e-mail as you have entered it in your forum profile.

kaseym, it is on its way. Let us know how it works or if you have any problems with it.

For those interested, kaseym, sent me an e-mail saying, "...that did it."

I sent him a Command-line program to update the booter that we use in special cases like this. If you experience this issue, you can e-mail and I'll send it to you. (support@hosteng.com).

Hi Greq,

Is this something that will be interrogated into netedit? Is there any peticular reason why the upgrade failed in the first place? Just asking in case this happens to me. Was it just because he was using an old version of netedit?

PLCGuy, as I stated above, "Error 212 from downloadbinfile" meant kaseym's H2-ECOM booter (v3.0.95) (July 2001 vintage) was not compatible with the newer versions of NetEdit (v3.7 or v3.8a) he had tried. The reason is, yes, because the H2-ECOM's booter was way too old and we had made some significant changes to improve some things.

Using a much older version of NetEdit would've worked, but I didn't have one to send him. So, instead, I sent a REALLY OLD Command Line program that will do the trick in most cases.

It is called Ether32.EXE and I can send it to anyone on request.
