DirectSOFT under Windows 7 - Issue with PLC Type
« on: May 27, 2010, 11:00:47 AM »
I have installed Directsoft 5.3 on a new notebook computer running Windows 7. DSLaunch shows support for direct logic family of PLCs, however when I try to create a new projec,t no PLC support is listed in the file new dialog box.  Also, when I try to open existing projects, I get an error message that says something like "PLC type (XXX) not supported by installed knowledge base".

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.  THNX, BVH

It may be that you have installed DirectSOFT5 underneath the Programs folder instead of c:\DirectSOFT5 folder?

But even if he did wouldn't the install adjust all the INI file path settings accordingly?

Yes, I install programs under the "Program Files" folder, not off the root of C Drive.

Windows 7 compatibility troubleshooter says DSP5 is not compatible.  Also, DS Launch hangs and gives message "Unable to initialize comm server" when I try to start DSP5 from DS Launch.

Any Ideas?

@bozvh: Uninstall it from the Programs folder, and reinstall it in the default folder of c:\DirectSOFT5.

@Controls Guy: For some reason it is unable to find the knowledgebase DLLs. This usually has to do with security on WinVista & Win7 systems. MarkF might be able to explain the technical reasons.

Thanks, Greg.  Good to know, if and when I ever have to downgrade to Vista or W7.   ;D

Did this fix your problem?  I am running into the same thing now.

If this is the case, DirectSOFT developers need to fix it...
