Do-More 2.10.2.52 update
« on: September 09, 2024, 10:50:35 AM »
I've had a heck of a time trying to download the latest Do-more designer update and was wondering if the problem is on my end or yours? I can get anywhere from 30-90% of the download completed and then it pops up with the following error:

Error downloading file!
Internet Exception(The connection with the server was reset)

I don't know if this is coming from you guys or Automation Direct but when I looked at their site they only have 2.10.1 listed as available.

Any ideas?

I upgraded a machine yesterday from 2.9.4.  No problem here either.
I retract my earlier statement that half of all politicians are crooks.  Half of all politicians are NOT crooks.  There.

Thanks for the replies. I never had a problem with earlier updates but I'm having my problems with this one. Over the course of three days I've probably tried it a dozen or so times without success. This morning I got to 98% before it bombed out. What's most frustrating though is that it starts the download from the beginning every time. If it would keep the portion already downloaded and pick up from there I'd probably have it after the second attempt.

I'll admit that we don't have the best network around here but I'm going to give it a shot from home tonight and see if that works...

You can always try from the Automationdirect.com website.

I still don't see the latest version available there. I was able to download it from home last night so I'm good for now.

Thanks!

I had this problem when trying to download it from a my customer's open WiFi network.  I changed to my HotSpot WiFi on my cellphone and was able to get it to download completely with no problem.  I think it had to do with the file-size and a network timeout.

Just to close the loop for me I did get an email from AutomationDirect indicating that they now had version 2.10.2 available which I was able to download without issues. I did notice that AutomationDirect sends you a zip file (code & updates.pdf file) which is transmitted through my browser (Chrome). When I was trying to get the firmware earlier using the Live Update feature in Do-more Designer it was just trying to download the .exe file of the firmware. My guess is that downloading files through the browser is a little more tolerant of errors than using the DmD application. I'm also sure part of the problem is our less than optimal network here at the office.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Definitely.  Our app is just a simple wrapper of accessing files off the Internet.  It doesn't track partial downloads, error detection and correction, etc. that modern Browsers and Servers provide.  If you have a reliable connection - the app works like a hose.  But as you stated, if you don't, the Designer app is not the best mechanism.
