BRX EthernetIP to PowerFlex 525 drives???
« on: May 18, 2023, 10:21:12 AM »
I saw that there was some discussion on the forum back in 2020 about controlling AB PowerFlex 525 drives from a BRX CPU using EthernetIP.  From my limited understanding, it sounded like it was not possible then and that the problem had to do with the BRX only sending Explicit messages, rather than Implicit messages.

I also saw a post by BobO stating that the BRX would be receiving an update that would add Implicit messaging.

Does anyone know what the status of this is and if anyone has successfully been able to monitor/control PowerFlex drives over Ethernet IP?

If it's possible, we've got a half dozen drives we need to control.

Thanks!

Implicit scanner is planned for 2.10 out later this year.

Thank you.

Was my understanding correct about needing Implicit messaging to communicate with the drives over EthernetIP?

No experience with it, sorry.

Found a "PowerFlex 525 Embedded EtherNet/IP Adapter" manual and it says you can do it with EXPLICIT messaging.  Their manual implied that it was more difficult, but could be done (see page 60 in link below).

There is a video on AD web site that had the Do More explicit messaging to a Powerflex 40 I would think it would be very close. Worth a look.

Ha!  I went to the Video Browser in Designer (Help->Browse Videos) and looked for explicit and it listed out 5 videos - the one entitled "EtherNet/IP Explicit Client with PowerFlex 40 VFD" is the one jwbaker3 is talking about.

Here it is...
