Do-more Software Freezing
« on: April 14, 2022, 04:07:23 PM »
I am currently running (DM 2.9.2)
I have noticed in the last couple updates do-more has been freezing a lot. I just get the spinning wheel. If I try to Ctrl-Alt-Del this works to end the task, however if I try to relaunch the software it will not launch until I restart my PC. Then everything works fine again. This problem seems to happen 1 times a day at random times per day. Today it happened 5-6 times and I noticed its kind of repeatable when I use the replace all function. This particular instance I replaced all R16 with R0 and it froze up/locked up. All applications on the PC still works fine just do-more froze. I was also getting this result when replacing V-memory locations the last couple days.

I get no error messages either.

Has anyone seen this behavior? if so how did you resolve it?

Thanks!
-Robert

Sounds like a bug.

If you can, email your project file to support at hosteng.com - we can look at it early next week.  I think you have provided enough detail for us to be able to duplicate it.

We already have 1 fix regarding Replace when dealing with the new Nested Structure UDT capabilities we added in 2.9 .  But that was a limitation in the UI, not a "freeze" issue with existing element types (R16 with R0).

I get a consistent crash every time I'm in the Documentation Editor and I try to Ctrl C and Ctrl V a 2nd or 3rd column's value. If I hit F2 and then copy/paste it works fine, but if I select the "cell" and copy paste it's a hard crash with an error message which I don't recall right now. I haven't tried it on multiple PCs yet. Just learned after 3rd or 4th time in 30 minutes to stop doing that!

We've addressed that issue.  It will be fixed in 2.9.3.  A larger Documentation DB can cause that on a paste.

I will email the project file today. Thanks for looking into this!

I could not duplicate the issue with a debug build of the Production version 2.9.2.  R16 was already replaced with R0, so I tried R0 -> R16 (opposite).  It worked fine.  I tried it with the various documentation options (Move, Copy, Nothing).  With the Doc Editor opened.  I tried it Online with one of my PLCs, with status ON - sometimes Status adjustments to project changes is what causes issues, not the actual "Replace" function.  I could not duplicate it.

I tried it with a larger project that has a ton of documentation where the existing Doc Editor Paste issue exists, with the Doc Editor opened.  I could not duplicate it.

Can you duplicate the issue with the project you emailed us (rename it and do it on that dummy copy)?  If you can, provide the specific detailed steps you took to get it to "hang".  It's difficult to fix a problem that we cannot duplicate.  Trust me, there IS an issue there - software does exactly what you tell it to do.  If we knew the "magic steps", that almost always isolates it enough we can figure out what the bug is.

However, don't spend too much time on this - I know you need to get YOUR REAL WORK done.  Sadly, it may rear its ugly head without you even trying (but may provide more/different details).

Oh, remember to Save Early, Save Often.  :-D

ANY freezing we need to know about - not just "replace".

Another option - if you can reliably duplicate ANY freezing (but we can't) - let us know, there's a way for you to collect details about the "freeze".  Just let us know and I will contact you with the details.
