Is there supposed to be a FW package for 2.9.1?
« on: February 21, 2022, 05:27:55 PM »
I updated DM Designer to 2.9.  I saved my project to disk and to PLC but am still getting an "inconsistencies" alert on the dashboard because the PLC OS is still at 2.8.6.

I've tried downloading additional updates but, according to the downloader, I'm not missing any files.  Is this result normal/expected?

PLC Menu > Update Firmware

Update OS and boot loader then reboot PLC

That's because Designer 2.9 installs the firmware for 2.9, hence the Updates said your "installation" is "up to date".  But your PLCs still need to be "updated", but that's different than the "Check for Updates" function.

Just go to PLC->Update Firmware dialog.  You will also need to update the Boot Loader/Gate Array for BRX (it's up to 1.10).

I've always been curious if it makes a difference whether the firmware is upgraded before the boot loader, or the other way around.  Is there one we should do first?

At times, yes, but usually not. In this case, the loader didn't actually change and really doesn't need to be updated. The GA file contains multiple images for different hardware versions. This release added a new FPGA version into the GA file, so the version was bumped, but the FPGA itself wasn't changed for existing hardware.

Maybe a different way to ask is, would the software prevent me from updating things in an improper order such that I would be left with a bricked device?  Understandable that if it doesn't make a difference then you can do either first.  But in the event that it does make a difference, is the proper order the only order that is allowed by the software?  If so, I'll just watch for an error message and stop stressing about which button to click first :)

Sorry, I'm in bug fix mode and not paying as close attention as I should be.

We've never shipped anything where order would break anything. There have been new features added to the FPGA that a new OS depended on, but it wouldn't break anything.

We have had phases during the alpha/beta cycle where order mattered enough to break things.

The short answer is 'no'.

Please see the attached images.  The software is at 2.9.  The program has been saved to disk and PLC at the new version level.  The PLC and OS do not appear to have updated versions.  Checking for new firmware shows no updates available.

Check out this video, it should help clarify the process
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJa7URctMhY

You can find video help in the Help->Browse Videos.  I entered "firmware" (minus the double quotes) to find all the videos that have that text in their title (there's also key word check list on the right).  That will show the video above.

That doesn't seem right. Check in C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Do-more\Designer2_9\Bin\Images\BX-DM1x and see what files are there.

Just chatted Watermark_JS on LiveChat. This was a fresh install on a new PC. The symptom was that under the c:\Users\Public\Documents\Do-more\Designer2_9 folder, there was only a Bin folder, no Help folder and no Projects folder. Down inside the Bin\Images\BX-DM1x folder there was nothing.

The issue was with Windows Defender. He thought he'd turned everything off, but it turns out there were 4 things to turn off. He only turned off 3 of them. The reason being that the 4th one was not in the Windows Defender window... you had to scroll down to see the 4th thing. Those things were:

- Real-Time Protection (he turned this OFF)
- Cloud-Delivered Protection (he turned this OFF)
- Automatic Sample Submission (he turned this OFF)
- Tamper Protection (this is the one that was left ON by accident)

So, he turned "Tamper Protection" OFF, uninstalled, and reinstalled Do-more Designer 2.9 and everything got put where it should be.
There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.
