New to DirectSoft, looking for a simple how to...
« on: April 22, 2009, 12:11:16 PM »
I am not totally new to PLC, i worked for a company and got to mess around with a PLC for a while but it was an AB not an AD so this is a whole new beast for me. I understand how RLL works but I'm by no means and expert (novice would be a better word!) Im having problems running DirectSoft 5. Im looking a for a source of info on how to use DirectSoft 5 as a beginner in the PLC world. I understand things like input and out put. and some other minor stuff. but things like V-Memory and ibox things are still above me. i tried the learn.autormationdirect.com site and they blow right past the basic stuff.
I ordered a 05, an RTD card, and DirectSoft5 (full) (cutting my teeth a little test project). I haven't received the stuff yet and I'm hoping that the Directsoft 5 will come with some sort of Directsoft for morons book? does it or should i be looking some where else?
I downloaded DirectSoft 5 and put in my reg code so I have the full version up and running. I've watched most of the Webinars read the directsoft32 manual (only one i could find online)

Please help

A little help here

http://www.theplcguy.com/ABtoAD/Introduction.htm

And be sure to download the online manuals for the DL05 and the options manual.

An output is a PLC's way of getting its inputs to change.

Thanks, that will help alot! you got any thing like a DirectSOFT5 User guide. something that concentrates more on the running of DS5 rather then the theory of RLL an PLCs?

Directsoft - if ordered as a physical disk -comes with a more extensive user's guide than the 'quick start' that you can get online. I don't know if getting the full package as a download triggers sending you that full guide or not. Check with AutomationDirect.

Edit - I now see online at AD that downloading appears to trigger the shipment of all the supporting stuff including the manual.

The definition of the PLC instructions is in the CPU manual I referred to in my previous post. Be sure to get that.
