Advanced HMI Inputs not working, outputs work great
« on: April 21, 2021, 03:54:56 PM »
Of cource, I need to be more specific..  I have a button and a thumbwheel in AdvancedHMI that work flawlessly.  However, getting stuff into HMI from my BRX is not working so well.  Using the 10001-19999 (MI1...) and 30001-39999 (MIR1...) are not working.  Is there some firewall rule I need to be aware of?  Its seems a little strange that it only works one direction.  I would think if it worked at all, that it would fully work, if the PLC was connected.  So, I'm a little unsure to blame AdvancedHMI for the issue.  Thoughts?

Thanks.

I've never worked with AdvancedHMI although there are several around here who have. If you need to prove the comms, use the BRX CPU or simulator and the MRX instruction to read MI/MIR  from the Modbus/TCP server. The local loop address (127.0.0.1) works fine from the target PLC to itself.

Well... I ended up wiping it out and rebuilding the thing.  I'm not finding this to be very stable.  I dont know how to save out a file that you can even load in later.  Thus, I rebuild, and its a complete do-over.  I'm not going to be able to use this if its not a bit more reliable.  Are there any do/donts that will improve stability??

I was running it out of Microsoft OneDrive so I can work on it from two locations.  I'm guessing that was not a good idea.  I have stopped that.  I'll just copy the directory and take it home with me when I need to work at home on it.

I'm also wondering about VB version.  I have 2019 Community.  It seems this is rather old, perhaps 2017ish was the last update.  So, I wonder if VB 2017 Community would be the better choice.  Its also the one you see in the videos.

Any other tips would be great.  If not, is there any other HMI out there that works in a similar fashion?  I didnt want to invest in a screen at this point.  I really need to just get my lab test running.  I'm going on two weeks now and I have to show for it is a pressure gauge I can auto-configure to PSI, and read on demand.

Thanks!

While I haven't used AdvancedHMI in quite a while, there's no reason for it to not be "stable".
There's an AdvancedHMI forum, they should be able to offer much more help there.  Archie is the founder, he answers lots of questions himself.
Your choices are, AdvancedHMI, free, runs on PC, a Cmore RHMI, ~$400, runs without a screen interfaces well with a Do more, or rolling your own, Node-RED, Python, php, etc.

I think your comm problems are related to offsets and function codes.  Some systems you need to add (or subtract) 1 to the "address" to get the right field, others not.  The first digit of the "address" sometimes refers to the function code, so sometimes you have to place this in front of the number, sometimes you need to remove it and define the function code elsewhere.  I hope that makes sense.

I'm not sure about the reasons.  Regardless, something gets corrupted and twice now I get some VB error when I try to run it.  They only way I know how to fix that is to blow away the Advanced HDMI folder, and unzip it fresh, and start over.  In my mind, that isnt stable.  If its from trying to share on two different computers over one-drive, thats I have remedied.

I am positive about the proper address.  It tells me what it is in the Do-More designer.  I tried several times with MIxx and they didnt work.  Again, I had to start fresh to get it working again.  I will go to the forum there to see if there are some tabu's I'm doing to have this happen.  It may just be the VB version, who knows.

Thanks,
