Ethernet/IP
« on: May 28, 2020, 07:57:54 AM »
This will be my first attempt at EIP. The target is a Cardinal scale head with a 2XX-EIP interface card. How do I determine if this is implicit or explicit? Where do I find the Class, Instance, and Attribute? Here is the manual:
 https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiYqc3qv9bpAhXUU80KHQapDLYQFjAAegQIBhAB&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.detecto.com%2Fthemes%2Fee%2Fsite%2Fdefault%2Fasset%2Fimg%2Fresources%2Fresources_brochures%2F8200-M554-O1_2XX-EIP.pdf&usg=AOvVaw3CO4s1njbQdGNrmhwaAU99
Thanks

Its implicit.  Not supported by the BRX.... yet, but I think they are working on it.

Is all AB EIP "by default" implicit?

Its more the trend than the default. Its easier for the user, the data just shows up in the Controller tags on a cyclic update. No messing with message instructions, which is no picnic to configure in RS5000.  However, if you are moving large chunks of data around, the messaging instructions are more appropriate. It will be nice when the BRX can do EIP implicit.

I was afraid of that thanks for your help.
Will the Productivity do it?

Sorry, never used them. Maybe Host has a better estimate of how long it will be before EIP implicit becomes an option on the BRX.

Yes, Productivity supports both E and I EIP. Youtube videos make it pretty straight-forward to set up comms.

Implicit is I/O messaging. It makes sense for some stuff.

EIP implicit scanner is a priority for our Spring '21 release. Implicit adapter should be in this fall's release.

It should work with explicit. Here's a two rung test program I did awhile back to read and write to a Parker SSD 590 DC Drive with a 6053/6055 Ethernet adapter.

PLC setup example is pretty near identical in it's manual to your scale's manual. The instances are 100 and 150 (0x64 and 0x96). Parker uses 20 bytes (10 words) where your scale uses 8 bytes.

I've tested BRX to Yaskawa EIP OK as well. Implicit would be better, but we aren't there yet.

Thanks Mike, that was the answer that I was looking for. I appreciate you taking the time to post. I will try it out next week.
