Recommendation for RAMPSOAK Instruction
« on: April 15, 2020, 05:28:08 PM »
I'm building an operator interface in which I would like to utilize the RAMPSOAK command for profiling. For flexibility, I would like the operator to be able to enter either a time to ramp in (ramp to value over variable time period) or a rate (ramp to value at rate per minute). I intend to run the RAMPSOAK only utilizing either one or the other command (either ramp rate or time period) and take the operator's input and convert it to match the type defined in the RAMPSOAK table. I would like the for the operator to be able to enter the value either way (utilizing 1 of 2 entry boxes on the HMI) and have the program automatically convert what they entered and display the complimentary value in the other input box. Now for my question. I'm looking for ideas on how implement the automatic conversion from one entry type to the other (in the most straightforward manner) to match the format of the RAMPSOAK table and without unnecessarily slowing down the program. I know I can keep an array of Entry Box 1 an array of Entry Box 2 and compare that to a third "master" array to determine which box has been updated to trigger a math conversion on that array entry. This involves a loop or stages comparing master to Box 1 and master to Box 2 to determine which as been changed. I intended to utilize all 50 steps so this approach would involve 50 iterations through the arrays. I've got a few more ideas on how to potentially do this without continuously running a loop to compare values but I'm looking for other ideas from guys who have been doing this a lot longer than I have and might have a more clever way to do this. Let me know if additional detail or clarification is needed on the problem statement.

If you are using C-More screens, I would use handshaking bits on the numeric entry boxes to trigger the math conversion for the other box.

Thanks for the suggestion. Seems like a much easier approach.
