DMD Comm's
« on: September 20, 2019, 08:00:24 AM »
If I am connected to a PLC (today a BRX) and I loose the connection (Ethernet or USB) it locks up DMD and I have to reboot the computer to get it back. I cant save the file stop the program (unless I use task manager and sometime that will not work) I have given it 15 minutes to resolve the problem after I tell it to disconnect but the program is totally unresponsive. I am running the latest software ver. 2.6.2 It was doing the same thing before the last update yesterday. What am I doing wrong or is this a problem others are having?

Thanks,
JW

How are you losing the connection?

Ethernet cable gets unplugged, some dummy turns off the power to the switch, Millwright cuts the interconnecting cable to the switch, the not me bandit turns off the remote switch power, I have a senior moment and unplug the cable before logging off of the PLC. Etc.

The CommServer is a separate executable and Designer is meant to handle the comm going bad.

What specific things are you doing when the comm locks up?  Are you connecting or writing the project to the PLC?  Or is Designer just online to the PLC, pull the cable, and it locks up, i.e. you don't have to be actively doing anything?

Were you just doing status, or anything?  It just locks up?

Are you doing a bunch of status on an old PC?

When it happens again, see if you can launch a 2nd instance of Designer and connect to the Simulator via the MySim comm link.

Not doing anything just locks up. It will not lunch another DMD until I reboot.

Are you getting any .dmp files in your public document's BIN folder?

Look at
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Do-more\Designer2_5\Bin or
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Do-more\Designer2_6\Bin or whatever version you are running

and look for any *.dmp files.  The csmainDM_*.dmp files are the Communication Server.  Are you getting any of those?  If so, zip 2 of them and email them to support@hosteng.com.  Maybe the oldest and the latest?

Also, if Designer is creating any .dmp files, those might also be useful.  They look like DmDesigner_*.dmp  Zip a couple of them and email those to the same address.

Just put in the subject line Dump Files or something like that.

No *.dmp file in the folder. I will try one of my backup computers in the morning to see if the problem follows the PC or the PLC.
