Directsoft Crashes
« on: August 24, 2008, 06:30:23 PM »
Running Directsoft 5.3 and have been having random crashes of Directsoft every since upgrading to Directsoft 5 from version 4. Running Windows Xp SP2 with Norton Corporate AV (been running it for years). The problem is not limited to this computer. It is happening on every computer we use for programming and it is driving us nuts. Most of the time it leaves the PLC in a paused mode which is a bad state to be in. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this problem?

Running XP SP2 here as well with no problems on anything from a 933Mhz P4 with 384 meg RAM to a 2GHz 2GB unit.  Wonder if it's some incompatibility with Norton.  I'm using the free version of AVG as well as Zone Alarm.  Maybe you could try that.  What are the commonalities with the machines that crash?  Are they all the same make? Do they all run Norton?  Are there any diagnostic dialogs when it dumps?
I retract my earlier statement that half of all politicians are crooks.  Half of all politicians are NOT crooks.  There.

No such luck.

I do have one very repeatable crash in DS5. Everytime I open the program and click on help the DS5 program crashes and I have to kill DSLaunch before I can open any programs again. So far not being able to use help sucks.

The problem is not with Norton, it has something to do with the problem that Host has been trying to correct in CSMain. I suspect that good old microsoft has updated one of their DLL's that is eating my lunch. I have uninstalled DS5 and reinstalled the original version but the crash exists even back there.

Do you have any DirectSOFT Rel 4 (or earlier) programs on your computer?  Specifically, DSData or Lookout Direct?

we haven't had any directosft issues specific to winxp sp2 - or sp3 for that matter. i'm with CG, temporarily disable the norton stuff, and maybe any windows firewall  (or 3rd party) ... see if that any effect at all.
Good design costs a lot. Bad design costs even more.

I have not had any crashes since upgrading to DS5...  I did have that problem with DS4 and found that it typically happened when I was running a bunch of other programs on my system at the same time...
