H2-DM1 DoMore with H2-ECOM with Serial IO in Slot 0
« on: January 31, 2015, 08:00:08 PM »
I purchased the H2-DM1 instead of the H2-DM1E as I already have a H2-ECOM100 in the PLC setup. I have found that many of the net instructions do not work with the H2-ECOM100. Is there something wrong I'm doing or is it you have to have the H2-DM1E to use the net instructions?

Also the Do-More does not like the H2-ECOM100 in base Slot1 ether. You will get a system error and the ERR indicator lights up at power-up.

Can't speak to the first question as I have yet to buy a non-E Do-More, but I think even with classic 205's, you couldn't put the ECOM in Slot 1.
I retract my earlier statement that half of all politicians are crooks.  Half of all politicians are NOT crooks.  There.

In the H2-ECOM manual page 2-7, 2-8, it says you can not put the ECOM in slot0, useable slots are 1 and on to the max slot of the CPU base. I check it with the D2-260 plug in and Slot1 works fine for the ECOM.

This time I decided to check it again with the Do-more with Slot0 empty and ECOM in Slot1 and it worked fine again. Then I plug back in the Serial-IO back into slot 0 and it still worked again. Then I moved the ECOM back to Slot 2 and repower back up and this time there was no configuration error. Should have been! So I put ECOM back in slot 1 and this time there was an error like it should be. Must be a firmware bug. Have not duplicated the my first problem. But can duplicate this second one. Also after moving ECOM to slot 2 I can communicate with the ECOM through DMD. Should not been able to until the system configuration has been fixed. The current system configuration still shows ECOM in slot 1 but my ECOM is in slot 2.

This time i removed the serial IO and power up and did receive configuration error with ECOM still in slot 1. Move it to slot 2 and did get the configuration error. Now I plug back in the serial IO and power back up again but no configuration error.
The problem seem to be the H2SERIO being pluged in to slot 0 that is causing this strange configuration problem.

I checked the Module configuration and ECOM is being shown in one or the other slots. Without the serial IO and you move ECOM form slot 1 to 2 or 2 to 1 I get the configuration error. But when serial IO is in slot 0 strange things happen.

I'm adding pics to show there is no errors in the NotCurrentConfig and the CurrentConfig pics.

Many of the network instructions are features of the DM1E itself and are not supported by the ECOM100, which is a standalone processor.

Also the Do-More does not like the H2-ECOM100 in base Slot1 ether. You will get a system error and the ERR indicator lights up at power-up.

There are no slot limitations under Do-more. If you are experiencing slot sensitive problems, we need to dig further. I read your message chain, but it wasn't clear to me what the specific problem was. In the pictures you posted, the modules appear to be showing up in the slots they are (presumably) installed in. Are you using manual or automatic I/O config? Can you give me a little more detail about the specific incorrect behavior?

LWgreys, this chart in the Do-more FAQs shows the difference between using the on-board Ethernet port and the H2-ECOM100 in a Do-more (as well as other things).

http://www.hosteng.com/FAQFiles/Do-more.htm#FAQ0027

There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.

In the first message i was in autoconfig. What happened when I moved ECOM from slot2 to the empty slot1 and powered back-up the whole configuration vanished. Only the do-more module was visible. I power down and put ECOM back in slot2. Powered up and everything was OK again. Thinking that's strange, I power down, put ECOM back into slot1, power up and again all modules vanished except the do-more again. So I switch to manual config mode and manually scanned the base and still nothing. This time I stayed in manual mode for the above listed events. After the last message I turned off the plc. Today I cleared the memory completely, reloaded the firmware update, which I updated before with the plc project in memory at the time, reloaded the project and everything mentioned above went away. So I thinking when I did the system firmware update with the project loaded in memory, part of the system memory became corrupted. That's all I can come up with. Now it's working fine again.

I see that I'm have to purchase the ethernet version of the do-more in order to add in the next system upgrades.
