H2-CTRIO2 and DL205 / 250-1 CPU "upgrade"
« on: September 12, 2012, 06:47:35 AM »
Can I install the new H2-CTRIO2 module in my existing DL205  250-1 CPU system and reap the benefits of the 250Khz pulse Output speed ??

Is there any programing changes required ??

I have a Quad Encoder Input on Ch1  (for position data feedback Only)  and I am using Output 1 in Step/Dir mode to control a Servo Drive.

I am hoping for a "drop in" replacement and configure the same as the H2-CTRIO EXCEPT be able to use the higher speed Output Pulses.. that the CTRIO2 is capable of...

Please tell me this can be done....  I need the faster pulse rate as my machine is to slow at 25Khz, And I do not have the budget for a program rewrite...

You can.

First off...I am sorry for the confusion with ADC. They made the decision to not support CTRIO2 on DL CPUs, but in the rush to ship Do-more I missed that detail. It was always our intention to have it be a drop-in replacement with a few new features, but their decision was apparently driven by concerns about the effort to bring the CTRIO manual up to speed.

We have tested in house, and it works fine. Truthfully, if it didn't, it wouldn't be any use to Do-more either...since the DM1 supports both the CTRIO and CTRIO2 in exactly the same way, it's important that they behave exactly the same way.

You can do exactly what you are hoping to do, with a couple of caveats. Most of the profiles were implemented using a 16 bit word to store the max frequency, hence, even with the CTRIO2 you are limited to 64kHz. There are three new profile types that don't have that limitation, and the dynamic velocity doesn't have that limitation. You will need the newest CtrioWB (2.2.0, I think) to support the CTRIO2 (although the old one will work, it just doesn't have the new stuff) but we haven't posted it yet. If we haven't posted it by the time you get your module, give me a shout and I can email you a zip file. The workbench exists, we just haven't rolled it into the install-able form yet. Should be done shortly.

Again, sorry for the confusion.

OK Great....

I thought that you said it would be a drop in replacement in your pre-release comments on this board.  I will be talking with my client to see if they want to go ahead with the "Upgrade"

Thanks for clearing up the confusion on this..

Hey Bob,

How long till you get the newest CTRIO Workbench update out ?

My customer is pulling the trigger on the CTRIO2 upgrade !!

Bob,

Just updated to CTRIO WB 2.2.0.2    and in offline there is no option for  250-1 CPU,  that is what I have.  What should I do ?

There should be a 250. We don't distinguish between the two.

...additionally, the offline CPU is just to give us guidance on how to present mapping and such. It doesn't change the CTRIO config itself.

Right I was just wanting to play with the new dynamic position profiles

looks simple enough....  just got to recalibrate my resolution and speeds when I get the module installed...
