I just noticed in the Documentation Editor that when you define a Nickname for a register, in this instance Peerlink memory, it automatically fills in the nicknames for the bits. This is great, but when I entered text in the Extra field the nickname disappeared. It doesn't for the Description. I think it should only disappear if the Nickname field is overwritten.  In fact, I would like the Extra field defined in the register to be copied in as well to all bits as long as its not overwritten.

OK, another look and I see it only wipes it out if you do a copy of just the Extra field and paste it into the bit definition Extra field.  If  you delete it , the bit nickname returns.  If you type it in, it doesn't wipe out the nickname bit field.

I tried it with the PL0 with Nickname (MyPLZeeRow) and Extra Field (MyExtra) and Description (myDescr), I get the correct Nickname and Extra Field for PL0:0 contact

Then I modified the Description and Extra Info for the specific PL0:0 cast record to OtherDescr and OtherExtra and it maintained the nickname:

Maybe you are doing something different?

Did you click on the extra field from another entry with your mouse (cntrlC ) and then paste (CntrlV) into the Extra field on the bit entry?  I know you guys do mostly keystrokes without the mouse. I also tried an F2, cntrlC and then cntlV and sometimes it wipes out just the :0 on the nickname. Stranger Things.   I also did a Add Doc range mode on these when I created them all at one time.

I can't duplicate it.  I tried pasting Ctrl+V at the field level (not text edit level) in both Description and Extra Info on all my records, and the nickname shows up properly for PL0 and PL0:0.

Start with a new empty project, minimally try to duplicate it, and then post the steps it took.  I know you are seeing something, but there is something missing in what I am doing  to try and duplicate it, hence my request.

STEP 1  Create new Project
STEP 2 : Open DOC Editor
STEP 3:  ADD DOCUMENTATION RECORD  -  element PL32 (DON'T FILL OUT THE FIELDS)
STEP 4:  IN THE DOC EDITOR - ENTER A NICKNAME AND EXTRA INFORMATION
STEP 5: ADD DOCUMENTATION RECORD IN RANGE MODE ELEMENT PL32:0 - PL32:15
STEP 6:  IN THE DOC EDITOR - USE THE MOUSE, CLICK ON THE EXTRA INFO FIELD FOR PL32 - CNTRLC
STEP 7: MOVE THE CURSOR OR CLICK ON ANY EXTRA INFO FIELD FOR THE BIT DEFINITIONS - CNTRLV AND WATCH THE NICKNAME DISAPPEAR
STEP 8: DELETE THE EXTRA INFO FIELD AND THE NICKNAME REAPPEARS

I can duplicate it.  Hopefully it's easy to figure out.

Yeah, it appears that if you edit the FIELD TEXT inside the text editor, it works fine.  But when you copy/paste at the RECORD level, it does this.

But it only does it if an actual record for that implied NN does NOT YET EXIST.

If I have PL32 documented w/NN, and PL32:0, PL32:1 have IMPLICIT Nicknames based on PL32.  If I manually edit the Extra Info and/or Description for PL32:1, then that record now exists, but it MAINTAINS the IMPLICIT NN for PL32:1 based on PL32 NN (but it has its OWN Extra Infor and/or Description).  NOW, if I PASTE an Extra Info and/or Description field from another record to the PL32:1 row, IT WORKS (because that record already exists because I previously created a record for it).

So it is ONLY an issue when the NN is IMPLIED from a "parent" element (e.g. base element of a cast) AND there is NOT YET a record for it (i.e. not yet a record for the cast record).  Doesn't seem to bad.
