DirectSoft5 and Windows Server 2008
« on: July 03, 2016, 08:37:10 PM »
When I try to install DirectSoft5 on a server with Windows Server 2008 I get an error message "An error (-5006 : 0X80070002) has occurred while running the setup" Installing the limited Version of DirectSoft 6 (PCDS-100) has no issues, however we only have a licence for DirectSoft5. Any suggestions?

I've allready tried the right click "Run as administrator" before...doesn't work either. Also tried the compatiblity settings for the exe file. Set it at Windows XP SP2 compatibility. Also has no effect. Error still comes up.

Right click on setup exe and select Run as administrator...

Next to try...
Do this also with your antivirus disabled.

Have tried that as well. Using Symantec Endpoint Protection.

Found the following links regarding this particular error; it is an InstallShield (now Flexera Software) error of some sort. The "5006" means "general error" and the "0x80070002" means "Cannot find the file specified". This is usually a security issue of some kind, or a drive letter change on install. But I honestly don't know what I'm talking about, just parroting what I'm reading.

See if any of the sufferers there give you a clue...

There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.

BTW, attached is a file that contains all the research I've accumulated or accidentally discovered on the InstallShield errors -5000 thru -6000. I don't remember where I got some of this information.
