SSI with BRX

I need to read a absolute encoder with ssi output.
Can this be done with BRX?

Maybe, but probably be more trouble than it is worth. We actually have a plan to do a 4 channel SSI module, just hasn't made it past the schematic.

Ok, I'll just go a different route.
Had a Koyo encoder fail on me because I didn't heed the temp specs ::). It needs to be good for -20 F. Found some that are good for -40 F but they either have Profibus, Canopen,SSI or the like.
Seems the only type of encoders that have extended temp range are of the Magnetic type.
Wonder what prevents the optical types from going that Low.

If anyone has opinions about what a good SSI implementation would look like, this would be a great place to discuss. Hardware-wise, it's basically a SERIO module with 422 transceivers, so that's easy. The protocol looks pretty simple. Setup would be straightforward.

Looks like you need to be able to specify:
1. clock rate
2. number of data bits
3. single mode vs multimode
4. data format (gray vs binary)
5. single mode minimum time between samples

Anything else you might want?

SSI is the identical hardware to a 422 SERIO...so apparently we were further along than I knew.  ;)

so, what is the recommended option for anyone wanting to connect an absolute encoder to a BRX ?
I watched the video on using an Ethernet/IP encoder, but idk how fast the response would be on that.

(apologies for reviving an oldish thread, but it has been running on for a few years already)
