Tip of the Day Trouble

I can't get Tip of the Day to stop appearing when DmD starts. Unchecking and closing doesn't do it. Saving a project doesn't either. This is in Win10 v2.5. Any ideas?

That information is stored in the INI file.  In the Apps panel of the LaunchPad, double click on the DmDesigner2_5.ini link.  This will open up the virtual store version of the INI file (the one actually used by windows).

Look for the [Tip] section:

FilePos=2352
TimeStampLong=1553289500
StartUp=0

StartUp should be 0 to make it NOT start up at launch.  If it's 1, edit it in notepad, but then double click again on the DmDesigner2_5.ini link in LaunchPad to make sure Notepad could save it.  If it's still 1, you have some kind of write protection on that file or folder or some security setting somewhere.

I have had zero success with 2.5 and the Tip of the Day in Windows 10 (1709). I have looked at the older ini's and they all have StartUp=1 and they do NOT display Tip of the Day. It doesn't seem to care what I have there in 2.5. I uninstalled 2.5 and manually deleted the registry, .opt and .ini files, then reinstalled. Nope.

Note that I WAS able to get them turned off in Win 7.

I have also noticed that I have no Projects showing in Launchpad in any version after 2.1 which has them in
C:\Do-more\Designer2_1\Projects\
rather than
C:\Users\Public\Documents\Do-more\Designer2_2\Projects\
etc., even though that is exactly where the projects are. I honestly never used that anyway though.

And it seems v2.3 also keeps its DmSim files in v2.2's directory? I can't open a 2.3 Sim after 2.5 has accessed it because it comes up as a 2.5 program and no access anymore in 2.3 unless I delete those files in the 2.2 directory.

The sim bug we know about and have a fix coming out next week.

I think you have some strange Windows security settings because everything you are describing are OS calls to write to INI files and to the registry, which are not working.

Please try this on another PC and it probably work as expected.  If so, there is something strange about your current PC.
