A last weekend I was upgrading a machine from a Red Lion Gem1 counter to a H2-CTRIO with a DL 250-1 processor. The machine has a quadrature encoder with an A and B channel. The issue I had was getting the counter to work as a quadrature, I tried sinking and sourcing wth no luck, it would only count in one direction. I switched the A and B channel and it still only counted in the same direction, 2A was the only recognized as a count. I had another CTRIO in the rack and put the encoder on that with the same result. I ended up setting the module up as 2 seperate counters, 1 up and 1 down counter and doing the logic in the program. This weekend I got another part of the upgrade done using the other counter module and  both channels set up as quadrature and everything works great. I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas about why I could not get the first encoder to work as a quadrature?

1. Did your wiring match that on page 2-13 of the manual?

2. Are sure sure the signals are in quadrature?

3. Are you sure of your setup?

4. Was the encoder being used as a quadrature on the GEM1?

5. Do you have a part number reference for the encoder?

1. Did your wiring match that on page 2-13 of the manual? Yes.

2. Are sure sure the signals are in quadrature? This may be the issue, the OEM had BEI make this specifically for them. I will try calling BEI and see what made this a special encoder - are the phases are 90 degrees apart or not??? I didn't think about that but it would make sense.

3. Are you sure of your setup? Yes, setup is duplicated for other encoders on the machine.

4. Was the encoder being used as a quadrature on the GEM1? I will pull the manual and see if it was or not.

5. Do you have a part number reference for the encoder? See #2.
