Identifing I/O modules
« on: April 24, 2008, 09:25:27 AM »
Will there be a way in the future to identify modules, installed in a rack, in the program?

Just a few modules report specifically what they are.  Most of the common ones just say something like "8 input discrete".

We could let you edit manually what they are, but you would have to maintain them, and if you ever actually changed the module, you would need to keep your documentation up-to-date.  The only thing worse than missing documentation is WRONG documentation.

I doubt we would add this "maintenance burden" on the customer, since you can do it just as well with MS-Word.

If a PLC system comes out that DOES support it, we will definitely provide the information via DirectSOFT!  (Actually, we are doing that now, it's just that all the same module types report themselves as the same module, e.g. "8 Point Discrete Input" ;))
