Controls Guy, NetEdit uses broadcasts to find devices. If it is on a different physical network (via a gateway), the gateway may not pass the broadcast telegram. If it does see the broadcast telegram, his subnet masking may not permit the response back to the PC on the other subnet. There are probably other scenarios. This is why, when WinVista and Win7 came out with no IPX support, we had to make a dipswitch on the ECOM/ECOM100 available to recover from such a scenario.

I don't know why but netedit 3 could not find anything at all, until I used a different non-windows7 computer and set up the link. It could also have had something to do with a firewall.

Yup... I should've mentioned that as well, te25. Firewall can most certainly do this to you!
