BRX Com issues
« on: July 22, 2021, 10:55:27 AM »
I have a BX-DM1E-36AR3 PLC. Connected to the Ethernet port are three BX-DMIO-M-D expansion modules, an HMI, and it is all connected to the facility network. Most times I am unable to connect to it with the programming software. The PLC MAC address will show up in NetEdit but the type is unknown and the IP address is 0.0.0.0. There are four other PLCs including an H2-DM1E that will continue to show in NetEdit. The HMI will continue to communicate and the PLC program is working. The only way that I have found to connect consistently is to disconnect the cable that is going to the facility network. After 30 seconds are so it will connect. Everything will work fine after I get connected and plug all of the Ethernet cables back in. When I am online there are no dropped packets and only a few retries in the IO monitor. Scan time is under 1ms.
Where do you think the problem is?

What version of firmware is the BRX running?

Update to 2.8.6 please. There was a bug we fixed that was causing broadcast storms, which might be the issue here. It it's still an issue after updating, we'll dig further.

Easiest way is to run DmD while connected to the Internet, so live update can pull it down automatically. Barring that, you can download it from either Host or ADC websites.

I didn't see it listed on either web site but the live update worked.
Thanks

Please refresh my memory on how to tell which versions of firmware are already on my computer without being connected to a PLC.

Most of the time if I am on site I don't have an internet connection.

Thanks.

Thanks for your help. The problem turned out to be another device on the network that was on the same IP address. I had suspected this early on but it did not respond to a ping so I started looking for something more complicated. In retrospect the problem was very obvious.
