BX Modbus Question

Hello,

I have a quick question on the BX-DM1E-10ED13-D.   I'm running my HMI and all communications to the PLC via Ethernet cable.  But, I need to do some modbus 485 to a temp controller and control it using the automation direct HMI if possible.

If I were to purchase the POM BX-P-SER4-TERM module, would I be able to make the connection to the temp module and run all my Ethernet coms simultaneously?  As well as control the temp module with the HMI?

You could do this 2 ways (if I understand the question correctly)
You have the BRX be the middle man between the HMI and Temp controller and talk to the HMI via Ethernet and have the BRX talk to the Temp controller via RS485.
Or if this is a SOLO controller, if you get a EA9 with a RS485 Port, the HMI could be setup to talk directly with the temp controller, and just leave the BRX on the Ethernet port.

Thanks for the response.  I unfortunately have the cheaper ea9 HMI.  It only has the power and serial.  The EA9-T7CL-R series.

If you use the BRX as the middle man between the HMI and the controller, yes.
I'm missing something, the EA9-T7CL-R has Ethernet. If you're talking to the screen via Ethernet, you could use the on-board serial port.
Else a POM would also work.

I'd make use of BRX's UDTs and them just map them to the modbus registers. It makes designing the screen a lot easier.

I don't understand. The EA9-T7CL-R has a serial port and ethernet. You can:

1) Use the HMI to talk to the Solo directly using the 15 pin 485 connection.
2) Use the HMI to talk with the BRX over ethernet and use the BRX 485 serial to talk to the Solo.

Be aware that if you choose option 2) and desire a user to use both the HMI and Solo to change settings that communication is not super straightforward as there has to be handshaking between the BRX and Solo to determine who has the most recent information. Option 1) is probably the most straightforward.
