BRX High Speed Counter resets with power interuption

I have BX-DM1E-36ER-3-D running a high speed counter.  How do I get it to survive a power loss scenario without resetting the count?  I suppose I could do a bottom of scan instruction to copy the value to a register, and a first scan instruction to move the value back into the counter, but that seams clunky?

Enable retentive accumulator.

As PBW said, at the bottom of the page where you set up the high speed counter, there is a checkbox for retentive.
