TI started selling it in late '89, early '90?  Koyo may have been selling it in Japan before then - not sure.
PLC Direct (previous name of Automation Direct) started selling it when they first opened for business in January, 1994.

Yeah, I remember using the 405 (TI and then later Siemens) around 91, and GE-branded 305's around 84.  I don't think GE ever sold the 405, that was after their time, correct?

There was a larger form factor that was basically 405-esque, SG8 I think, that GE might have sold, but I don't think they ever sold 405.

GE Series 5 was based on the "big 405" which was also Koyo's SG-8.  I don't think GE's Series 5 ever made it to actual shipment because that was when Koyo was kicked out and Fanuc was brought in.  Hence the need for Koyo to find a legitimate partner, ended up being Texas Instruments.

GE forced Koyo's hand.  In Detroit at the trade show where the TI-305 was introduced, the GE Series One guy was quite upset when he saw it.

I have worked on an SG8.  Next time I am in that plant, I'll see if its still in the machine and take a photo.
Its BIG compared to a BRX.
