Is this possible?

Edit:
The reason I'm asking is because the RTU side bogs down pretty badly when a node drops off or is disabled when auto reads are enabled...

there's current;y no way to get the gateway to stop trying to process all of the automatic reads.

you may want to try reducing the timeouts to as low a value as is reasonable and setting the retries to 0, to get the nodes that are offline to fail as quickly as possible, thus letting the functioning nodes update as quickly as possible.

What effect does that have when they come back online?

when they come back online the comm should just pick up and work. each entry in the list of automatic reads is an autonomous operation.
