Looking to upgrade to do more cpu
« on: April 15, 2014, 05:05:26 PM »
Hello, currently have a DL260 cpu controlling my home automation. This system controls anything you can think of... blinds, pool, pond, energy management, etc etc etc. I'm going to be purchasing a do-more cpu with ethernet. I ran the migration tool and it came up with a ton of errors. I'll fix that when the time comes. I believe I read somewhere that this system can actually email out the Ethernet port. Is this possible from a home router/switch/cable modem or will I have to purchase a domain name? Current isp is time warner so I believe my ip address changes on a daily basis as it is basically leased out. Very interested in the emailing out portion as it would be neat to see status changes by email. Im sure this will get old quick but neat nonetheless. Thanks for look and answering, I'm sure there will be plenty of questions during the migration process. Thanks    Chris

As the EMail client, your IP Address can change, but this doesn't matter.  The EMail (SMTP) Server's address typically can not change, but now many ISP mail server's IP Address change  :-\.  This is one of the reasons we added some features in 1.2 (we're now up to 1.3) that let you deal with a dymamic IP mail server.

First, there is a DNSLOOKUP instruction.  So, if your isp mail server name is "mail.myisp.com", use that in your DNSLOOKUP.  Then use the DEVWRITE instruction to modify the Do-more's SMTP Server's IP Address that came out from the DNSLOOKUP instruction.  Then use the EMAIL instruction.  A "SendEMail" PROGRAM code-block using Stages is the best way to perform these 3 operations in sequence (sequencing is hard in pure ladder logic, very easy in Stages).

I know there are examples on how to do this with gmail.  This may be your best route, rather than trying to use your ISP's email server, just use a google gmail account instead.  People have got that working.

I use DoMore to send over 100 emails every day through gmail. Works great :)
I have gmail set up to send texts to my phone as well so I can keep track of the system.
