I take it by saying, "I had windows 8 working and then it decided to give a 'Unable to Initialize Element Server!'" that you mean that DirectSOFT was working in Win8 and then stopped working in Win8 giving this error. There is a separate executable called ESMAIN.EXE (Element Server Main) that is necessary to run DirectSOFT. Obviously Win8 is not letting it run. This is usually due to security of some sort. You might try to right-click on DirectSOFT5's shortcut (or DSLaunch's shortcut) on your desktop (assuming you have DirectSOFT5 since you didn't say) and select "Run As Administrator..." and see if it works.

There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.

I am running as administrator already. How do I find where "ESMAIN.EXE" and change the setting? Thank You RMT

What do you mean "running as administrator"?  Do you mean you are logged in as a user who has "administrator" priveleges?  If so, that is different than running an application "as administrator".  If that is the case, then please right click on the app and do "run as administrator", which is different from being logged in as an "administrator" user.

These are Windows security issues.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

Really??!  How so, and why would they do that?  How many levels of permission are there, and why would logging in in an admin account not confer the same privileges as "Run As"?

That's how it's been since Vista (I've read even XP SP3???).  Security changed greatly around that time, and that was one of the differences.  That is why that prompt is there on the right-click context menu, even when you are logged in as "administrator" or as a user with "administrator" privileges.

I finally had to take the plunge, and have Windows 7 Pro. When you go to a file or folder and go to Properties>>Permissions, there is whole list in there. Suffice it to say, I get lost real quick.
You would think that setting up your PC with ONE account would mean there is only ONE account and it would have to have administrator privilege... Well... Think again...

Maybe Siemens can port TISOFT to CP/M so you can program your 325 and 435.   ;D

I actually had to work on a 305 a month or two ago, and after using Do-More or even 06/260/450, I was tempted to look inside and see if there were tiny hamsters in there on a wheel or something.
