Corrupted Ladder File
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:28:07 AM »
I have a corrupted ladder file that I would like to retrieve the documentation from. I have redownloaded the ladder but I cant seem to re-import the documentation files. The ESD and SCD files appear to be intact. Is there a program  that will open these files so that I can manipulate them somehow back into DS?

do you get any errors when you open the project? or just no documentation?

the ESD is for element doc and the SCD is for stage comments, are those the two groups of documentation you're wanting to retrieve? what about rung comments? that would be the LCD file.

i'm not sure that you can tell that those files are intact because they contain binary data (not just ascii), but regardless, the easiest thing to try is temporarily moving the ESX, SGX and LCX files out of the project folder and then reopen the project. these files are index files for the documentation and get rebuilt when the project reopens.
Good design costs a lot. Bad design costs even more.

Error on opening the project is" Cannot open DIRECTSOFT project because project file is corrupt or created with a new version of DIRECTSOFT. (39, )x72) than the one that is currently running"

ECD, LSD, SCD files exist, Ideally Id like to retrieve all if possible.

Since we haven't changed the format of project files, this is definite indication your project is corrupted beyond repair. However, if you have been using this project for a while, it is very likely there are automatic backups stored on your system. Look in:

c:\DirectSOFT5\Projects\Backup\AutoSave

There could exist everything you need there. If it is there, the easiest thing to do is to use DirectSOFT and File --> Import to import the .TXT file. This would restore your program & your documentation when you File --> Save As... to some other name.
There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.
