DirectSoft Configure I/O Addr In & Addr Out...
« on: February 07, 2010, 12:45:45 PM »
It took me a while to figure out how the Configure I/O dialog works.  Is there inclusive documentation of this anywhere?  I've checked the "Getting Started" guide and the PLC documentation.

What I've figured is that the In and Out columns identify the total number of inputs or outputs for a given slot.  The Addr In and Addr Out columns identify the starting address for that slot.

The Addr In or Addr Out column is set to 0 if there are no inputs or outputs for that slot, respectively or if that card happens to start addressing at 0.

For instance, since I have only one input card in my PLC, each Addr In box is set to 0.

Now that I understand how this information is presented the dialog box is very useful and simple.  I thought I'd post this here in hopes of helping out anyone else who might be having trouble with it.

It would be nice if a few more paragraphs were added to the help file so when "Help" is clicked in this dialog, a complete explanation is presented.  Perhaps most users have no problem understanding it...

Sorry for the delay in answering. You asked, "Is there inclusive documentation of this anywhere?". On the Configure I/O dialog itself there is a Help button that gives a brief description. Also, in your c:\DirectSOFT5\Help folder there is a DirectSOFT manual in PDF format. In Chapter 5 (pgs 5-2 & 5-3) describe the Configure I/O dialog briefly.

Hope that helps!

There are two types of people in the world; those that can extrapolate from incomplete data sets.
