Connecting PC to PLC
« on: November 23, 2007, 06:47:35 AM »
Dear Friends,
I am new to PLC.

I have purchase a DL-06-DR-D PLC.

I am using a RJ11 Jack (2 pin) to Ethernet RJ45 Jack onto my Laptop. I Installed the DirectSoft Ver 5.2 and it works perfectly i suppose. But on starting the program, when it scans for Links, it finds none.

I have 12V DC Power Supply on to the Device (when measured with Voltmeter it is 11.7V), and the power Light is lit on the PLC. None other lights are on. The Button is on TERM.

I even tried the button at RUN but the Run Light is not ON.

Just would like to know how can i have access to the PLC from the PC.

I have RJ11 (pin 2 and 3 active.. i.e., TX and RX as per pin details) to USB, or to RJ45.

I have a 15pin VGA Male-Male, used that directly onto my computer. still it is not recognizing the PLC.

Have even tried activating all teh com ports 1-8, and checked all ports. no use

Thanks in advance

Pk

1. A new PLC unit's 'RUN' light will not turn on until a valid program is downloaded and started.

2. Connection to the RJ11 jack is from a standard (RS232) serial port (possibly one supplied by a USB-Serial adapter if necessary). The 15 pin high-density connector is also a serial connection with the addition of pins for RS422/RS485.

3. I would recommend ordering the proper cable from AutomationDirect. The D2-DSCBL will connect directly from a PC standard 9 pin port to the RJ11 port on the PLC.

4. Once you have the proper cable installed then open DirectSoft. You must create a link following the instructions in the software documentation.
An output is a PLC's way of getting its inputs to change.
