Since we use the ECxX IBoxes to master Modbus TCP to generalized remote slaves, consider doing the remote address display in Modbus standard form instead of V-Memory form. Having to do the mental translation "It says TA0, which is a special case but actually means V0, which is Modbus address....." can be kind of a pain and a little hard to follow for those of our customers not familiar with AD addressing. Or maybe have a Modbus addressed version of the PC instruction that still compiles to the same PLC instruction (and doesn't necessarily need to upload in the same form you programmed it with).

Or perhaps a future product might handle it in a far more elegant way. Hypothetically. For now.

DirectSOFT does not know you are using ECxX for Modbus or good ol' DL peer-to-peer. All of that is internal to the ECOM100 module. We're solving this issue in the next release by having the new CPU's MRX/MWX support Modbus/TCP in addition to Modbus/RTU (see attached screen shot).

I know, that's why I was saying to make the default assumption Modbus or to introduce a new pseudo-instruction that compiles to the same instruction (or actually to the same group of instructions, since we're talking about an IBox) but looks different in DSoft.

Will that apply to the DL-Classic CPU's?

Not likely.

...cuz I'm working with an ECOM-100 on a platform that I don't foresee getting a new generation CPU anytime soon, and I'm here to tell ya, Modbus addressing would be a good thing.

Undoubtedly. Just an issue of infinite demand on finite resources.

Ah, yes. Didn't stop to think about that.

On a positive note, we are on the downhill slope towards something more public, regarding the next generation. We are hoping to have a 2 phased thing: a public technology preview...simulator only, followed by a formal beta. Won't help those bound to previous platforms, but we are hoping to generate some buzz and get broader feedback. Hoping you and the others with 'special' knowledge will help us talk it up when that happens...hopefully in the next few weeks...after I get formal approval from ADC.

Are you kidding me? The death of BCD? I'm taking out an ad in the Times! ;D
And are you calling me "special"? As in olympics? :D
