Title: F3-16ND3F
Post by: sdickinson on August 05, 2010, 10:19:44 AM
I have purchased 4 of these modules for a DL 305 chassis, with a DL 340 CPU.  They can be configured for sinking or sourcing inputs, (or so it says).  If I move the jumpers from sink to source all my inputs turn on, even with the terminal blocks removed.  So do I have to rewrite my entire program to look at my inputs in the NC state instead of NO state or rewire my panel?  Any help is appreciated.

I would call AutomationDirect and/or post at the AutomationDirect forum.
The representative schematic of the input circuitry does indeed make it look as if, with 'sinking' selected by jumper, that all unconnected input will turn on.

I'd say option 1 is use a different module.  But if for whatever reason you have to use that module and have to use it in sink configuration, you will have to flip the NO/NC states of all the inputs.  A shortcut to expedite that is to do a global replace of all the inputs with internal control relays, then add 16 rungs that set the value of that internal relay to the opposite of the physical input.  You can even do the search and replace in one step if you use a contiguous range of relays.

Well, I just figured out that if you are going to use this card in your chassis then they all have to be jummpered the same.  I moved the jummper on one card and changed the wirering only to find out that all the cards share the common through the backplane.  So when I rewired the one card, I created a dead short.  The fireworks show was great.  New modules are on there way with isolated commons.

Yes, many project don't work unless you release the magic smoke.
