Title: Best PC/server setup for Do-more Designer and BRX data logging?
Post by: leojhon on October 29, 2026, 07:38:32 PM
Hi all,

We have 6 BRX PLCs on our network, and right now everything runs through one old office PC. We use it for Do-more Designer, project backups, and Modbus TCP data logging. It’s slow, and Designer lags whenever I’m online with more than one PLC.

I’m thinking about moving all of this to a dedicated machine. I want to buy lenovo entry level server hardware (https://etechdevices.com/collections/lenovo-server-systems) , since it should run 24/7 and be more reliable than a desktop.

Before I spend the money, I’m wondering if a basic server is fine for Do-more Designer, or if it needs a strong CPU. I’d also like to know how much RAM people use when logging data from several PLCs, and whether the same machine can run an OPC UA server for our HMI. Does anyone keep PLC traffic on a separate network card?

Our setup is small, so I don’t need anything crazy. I just want it stable and fast enough that I’m not waiting on the software all day.

What are you all running? Thanks!
