Title: Connecting to a BX-DM1E-M-D
Post by: jrayb on June 16, 2021, 07:25:31 PM
Ok, i'm not a word smith or anything but i'm going to run down what my issue is as best I can. I had our IT department set me up with a router for my PLC network that has an IP address of xxx.xxx.2.x. The IP address of my PC is set to obtain IP address automatically & is on a network that has an IP address of xxx.xxx.1.x. I have been transitioning everything over & everything was working great until I tried to connect to the PLC on my last system. This system has a BX-DM1E-M-D with 3 separate slaves. The slaves, PLC, HMI & Yaskawa drives are communicating as they should. I can also ping each of the devices from my desktop except the BRX. Another note, I have several switches installed & can ping the BRX when i'm connected directly to the router that the main ethernet cable comes back to from the affected system. My desktop is hooked to a switch & that switch is connected to this router, my PC is not directly connected to the router. My IT department has tried everything they know how to do. They even had Cisco come in to help them & they couldn't solve the problem. They asked me if I could change the PLC out to see if it's the problem. Does anyone know if the slaves could be causing an issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There was a bug in early 2.8.x firmware that broke routing. Depending on how things are configured, that could be an issue. If you are directly connected (switch, not router), and the PLC is configured for the same network settings as your PC, it should work even with the bug. If there is a router between the PC and PLC, it might not work.

Upgrade to 2.8.5. Consider using a USB POM to do so. If you are already at 2.8.5, probably need to get a tech on the line...either from here are at ADC.

I actually updated the software & bootloader to the latest version yesterday. I can connect to the PLC with my laptop but cannot on the other side of the roter. Should I call AD tomorrow? Will they be able to tell me how to fix the issue or will I need to replace the PLC & get an RMA?

If you can connect with the laptop, there is no hardware problem, so no, please don't return anything. Might be best to talk to us here at Host. Send an email to support@hosteng.com and we'll get in direct contact.

I have version 2.8.3 installed on my laptop. The latest version that ADC offers is 2.8.3 on their website. Where can I find version 2.8.5?

That has the bug. My guess is that is your problem. Live update from within DmD will get the latest, or you can download from www.hosteng.com. And I misspoke...2.8.6 is the latest.

Well...wait. According to the version history, 2.8.3 fixed it. So I'm not sure now.

Problem solved. I swapped the PLC out for one I had on the shelf. Installed the program & updated the software & my problem was solved. I will get with ADC for an RMA.

If the old PLC was working with your laptop, the hardware should be fine. You might try clearing it, updating the OS and FPGA, and loading your program again, but I really don't believe it is broken.

Will Do Bob. Thanks for all your help. Oh, just as a heads up. I emailed Host support early this past Thursday morning letting them know that I was in a "down" situation. I haven't received a response to that email yet.

Well, that's not great. Thinking the primary support guy was out on Thursday, but I could be misremembering. Doesn't explain why he didn't follow up on Friday, but if the support box looks anything like my inbox, sometimes things get overlooked after a day away.

Sorry, jrayb, my bad.  :-[ Your email was buried in a flurry of others and a myriad of interruptions. Too many distractions. I apologize. This does happen to me occasionally, but it is rare. Normally, I'll call you back within an hour or so, or respond the same day, or at most the next day. Oops. Glad you were able to get it going.
