Title: Network Traffic Jam
Post by: CHarris on May 19, 2021, 03:09:35 PM
I have 8 BRX PLCs connected to a LAN for programming along with a large number of other devices.  Has worked fine for a year or more...
I've just added a new AB 5380 as an aggregator and began to pass data back and forth to my first BRX.  In order to enable EtherNet/IP Server/Adapter, I had to update the BRX os from 2.5 to 2.8.5
As the first two seemed to work well, I updated and enabled all the rest.

Now any time I have more than 2 BRX on the network they all start dropping packets to the point of stalling.  I get constant timeouts and ST145/6.  I have disabled all of the ENet/IP Adapters but still cannot have more than 2 on the network at once.  I thought I'd be back to square one by disabling the EIP, but No-go.
Should I downgrade the os to a previous version?  Where can I find earlier versions for DL?  At this point, I'm not sure how to get back to where everything was working.
I've just discovered Peerlink and I think this may do what I need if I can get everybody back on the network.

Yes, you can downgrade. If you still have the older DmD version installed, it will be in the Images directory under that version. If not, please request it at support@hosteng.com.

But you should never see ST145 or ST146, on old or new firmware. Either the PLC is listening for traffic on a TCP or UDP socket that isn't being handled, usually the result of a user protocol that isn't doing the work it should be, or there is some very suspect (and probably very fast) traffic on your network that's being sent to the PLC. I'd stick a mirroring switch on the line between the primary switch and one of the PLCs and see what's there with Wireshark. We're happy to review the trace if you want to send it to the support email.

I would also be curious to see what DST40 and DST41 are showing. If the PLC's scantime is reasonable and the network traffic is reasonable, neither of those locations should show much. If they are counting up, there's a problem.
