Title: Feature request -- Additional features in Memory View
Post by: Controls Guy on March 23, 2021, 12:54:20 PM
There are a few things I think would enhance Memory View.

I popped one open this morning trying to find a particular input, but the Memory View doesn't show the docs for the selected point.

I attached a screen shot of the equivalent view for the SLC-500, as well as the Right-Click menu.

In the main view, you can toggle between value (simultaneously live/polling and writable), Usage, and Forces.   Forces will show a dot for any location not forced, and the actual value for any forced location.   Black text if forces not enabled, red if they are.   Whatever point is selected, you see the nickname and description in the bottom of the dialog.   Very useful.

I really like all the stuff you can do from the context menu.   Jump to a cross reference, force, etc.

Thanks!

Already there.  Check the status bar as you hover over the element.

Mostly implemented.  You cannot change the force/unforce, but it does show you the force state (bold) or unforced (normal not bold)

We do show usage info in the status bar also.

See the attached screenshot for all the behaviors.  Remember that the status bar reflects where the MOUSE CURSOR IS, NOT the SELECTED element.  This way you get details JUST BY MOVING THE MOUSE!   ;D

You're welcome!

And all without killing [many] pixels.   I like!   8)

The polling and writing at the same time is a huge deal for me though, and I would like to be able to jump from here to an XRef view, as well as force from here at some point.   With Usage, I was kind of picturing, and prefer, a Usage mode for the entire table, like what you have in XRef.   That way you can visualize where the holes are.

Your approach does have the screen-space efficiency advantage (in addition to features they don't even have like color coding on value change).    Overall I think yours is probably better, but there are some features they have that I'd like as well.

OK, so there's nicknames but no description.    That's part of why I didn't notice it on this project.   A lot of projects, a lot of my  points have descriptions but no nicknames (just like selected point in the AB example I posted), so I'd like to squeeze the description in there somewhere.

I forgot it already does that.  The background color shows Usage for every element, so you don't even need to move your cursor.  Gray background means UNUSED, white background means USED.  See the attachment.

Please look on the key for all the features that are there with FG color, BG color, bold.  The attachment also shows the key.

Lots of cool stuff in there.

Also, F9 key (Element Browser) works on the current selected element.  Say D22 has focus.  Hit F9 and you get the Nickname, Extra Info, and Description.

F9 is universal in most views.  Wherever you have focus, when you hit F9, it may bring up the Select Element dialog instead, hit F9 again and you get the Element Browser.
