Title: error connecting to ethernet device

Ok,
Guys I am stuck.  I have an atypical problem.  I can connect from Directsoft5 software to my plc on one of the user on my computer but on the other user, which is the main administrative user account, it will not connect.  Everytime you try to upload the new editions of the plc program from this user it can not connect. 
I would almost understand if the non-adminstrative user couldn't connect to the device because then I was just guess that the user had to have admin rights to connect...but for the admin user not to work is a little mind blowing.

I have tried unistalling and re-installing but that didn't solve the problem...I have looked at Internet Options to see if I had changed some setting but didn't notice anything changed

Any Ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Check your firewall settings.  The firewall software may allow different protection levels for different users, and might even logically default to more protective settings on an admin account.

is this MS Vista OS (Basic, Home, Premium, or Ultimate)?   or XP (Home or Pro)?

Ok,

Yep I had already tried the whole firewall thing and had gone as far as completly turning off the firewall and still having the same program. 
Sorry, about not talking about the OS...but it is MS Vista Premium...i wish it had XP on it but o well not my decision.  Thanks

I think in Vista-speak, "Premium" means "Almost as good as Windows 2000"   :D

Does this mean you are trying to connect to the PLC over the Internet? If so, can you ping the IP address of the ECOM (or ECOM100)? Also, if it doesn't work on the Admin account and works on a "lesser" account, it could be that the Admin account uses 2 NICs (wired & wireless) and the "lesser" account is limited to only one NIC (say, wired). If so, the Admin account's versatility (2 NICs) could be the issue. On that account you would have to disable the NIC you are not using, or reprioritize the NIC you want to use.

What is NIC. And im wired to the plc not wireless. Im not trying to connect to the plc over the internet.

NIC = Network Interface Card. It is the physical card in your PC that talks via Ethernet cable or Ethernet wireless. To reprioritize or disable Start --> Control Panel, double-click on Network Connections. Here you can right-click on the Connections and select disable. Or using the menu at the top select, Advanced --> Advanced Settings and on the Adapters and Bindings tab reprioritize the Connections by moving the one you are trying to use up to the top of the list.

Hello, are you able to connect to anything else using your ethernet port?
