Hi,
I have done a clean install of Directsoft 5 and it will install fine but without any support for PLC:s...
Please see the attached screendumps.
One is from when the programming is launched for the first time
I would appreciate a prompt reply.
I have blanked out the registration details so that the installation code doesnt start to float around the net.
Best regards,
/Felix

What version of Vista is this running on: Home Basic? Home Premium? Business? or Premium?
Did you install this under an account that has administrator privilege?

Hi,
Vista business and I installed as an administrator, no antivirus or anything.
Reinstalling / uninstalling doesnt help, same problem
//Edit when I choose about the same filereading error pops up...
I have tried reinstalling in compability mode (xp sp2) but it didnt matter...

New information.
When I install the DS5 service release the ERROR opening file dissapers, however still no support for any PLC:s.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm using Vista Business on a Dell desktop - even with anti-virus installed - and I've not had any problems like this.
Are you still seeing the first error dialog (Error opening file)? If so, can you expand the dialog and see if there's any more information to the right - like the filename or the full registry key?
-
Hi Dave,
Unfutunately not. It can not be expanded, it is only pointing to ReadRegisteredUserInfo
The computer is a HP notebook nw8440 with a clean install of vista business.

Now I have tried reinstalling / uninstalling / rebooting etc etc it just dont work...
From where is the license information read!? I hate to reinstall all of vista but it is soon the best thing I can think off..
If I look in Dlaunch and directsoft programming then support for all PLC:s shows up!!

Ok,
Problem solved, This is how I did.
Installed Directsoft5 on the vista machine.
Did an exact installation to the same directory on an XP machine.
Then I deleted the DirectSoft5 folder on the Vista machine.
Then I copied the directsoft5 folder from the XP machine to my Vista machine.
Everything works! :)
Hope this helps someone else.

I'm not sure why that worked because our software doesn't have much (if any) OS-specific installation code. It installs the same files in the same folders regardless of the OS.
Regardless, I'm glad you got it working.

Cheers,
I have actually solved some strange errors the same way when people switched from NT4 to Win2k and I just thought I should give it a shot.
I did manage to get one error message though.
Hope this gives you a clue.

This popped up when I was running the first clean DS5 installation on the Vista machine

DirectSOFT does not install under "Program Files". It normally installs off the root, i.e. C:\DirectSOFT5
How did you get it there? Did you browse to it? If so, I'm guessing that Vista doesn't like manual installations under c:\Program Files, which is an O/S folder, not a user folder???
-
The fact that you installed under 'Program Files' is a very important detail that you left out. Windows Vista cares deeply about anyone installing files into the \Windows folder and the \Program Files folder. Vista's UAC (user access control) scheme is what's doing you in here, not DirectSOFT or it's installation procedure.
Check out this link sometime when you have a few minutes to kill: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5538.

I always installed directsoft (and all other installable programs) under the program files directory, usually it is the default directory (for most software I came across).
I installed using the custom install option
I never tried installing it in c:\directsoft5 folder actually.
Maybe that is the thing, although I have installed a bunch of other older programs under program files.
Hope you figure it out, it's time to hit the sack in Sweden know :)
Just to point out, I do run english versions of XP and Vista.
Cheers,

I'm not a betting man, but I bet it would work if you installed it at the default location c:\directSOFT5. The only way to make that work now is to UNinstall what you have, then reinstall to the default folder.
MikeS is right - c:\program files\ is an o/s folder. True, this is for installed programs, but DirectSOFT installs off the root to make it more accessible to end users BECAUSE c:\Program Files is an O/S folder and sometimes Explorer doesn't like people browsing into O/S folders (e.g. to browse to the DirectSOFT5\Projects folder!!!!)

Allright then,
Thanks for the info and the input, I will make sure to install to the Directsoft5 root folder from now on.
In case there are other guys who get stuck the same way I did it might be a good idea to point it out under known problems?
Best regards,
/Felix
