Title: Using Ethernet to connect a device to Do-More

So I have a data collection system that has 6 output channels and would like not to use analog inputs as this may get moved to different job sites. It has an ethernet port on an arduino and the PLC has ethernet and a switch.  so how would one get them to talk? I am thinking maybe Modbus protocol? Any documentation on how his might work?
