Title: DirectSoft 6.2 crashes
Post by: plcnut on September 28, 2018, 11:32:22 AM
I am having multiple crashes with DirectSoft 6.2 while online with PLC's.
I am attaching the dmp files.

Really missing Do-More at this facility!

How repeatable are they?
Do they occur at random events?
Are you always online when it happens (or always offline)?
etc.

I have been running 6.2 for awhile with no problems. Been taking version 5 and converting as I go. Lots of older machines.
After working with Do-More, DS seems, well eeewww..  lol

I have used serial and ethernet, no problems. running windows 7

Sorry for the late response...

I have always been online (best I can remember).
I used wifi to connect for a while, and I 'think' that I may have had less problems when working from a wired connection.
Scrolling the ladder with status turned on seemed to exasperate the problem, but that was not the only time that it happenned.

The crashes happenned at least a dozen times over a few hour period on this job.
I did leave my laptop sitting while connected to a PLC for quite a while, and it never crashed. It only seems to happen if I am there trying to do something.

What are the specs on your PC?  CPU speed, memory, etc.

I can't remember off hand. I will look when I get a chance.
It is no slouch though. I run Solidworks, and other resource intensive applications on it.

PC specs:
Toshiba laptop.
Intel i7 4710HQ Processor @ 2.5GHZ
16GB RAM
OS Drive: 500GB SSD.
Storage Drive: 1TB SSD.
Windows 10 Pro
Version 1803
OS build 17134.285.

Also, the project file does reside on the second SSD.
I will be onsite doing some other work for this same customer tomorrow. I will let you know how it goes.

Could you try disabling all the laptop's power settings (so that it never sleeps)? Or have you done that already? Thinking, perhaps, that a resource disappeared because of a "sleep" mode or "power-saving" mode, and then when it came back, it didn't fully reload, then when you began to use DirectSOFT again... <crash>

I checked, and my monitor is the only thing that shuts off with the power settings.
I only had 2 crashes today, but was careful to keep the status turned off whenever I could.
