Title: Automatic Show Elemement Picker
Post by: PLCGuy on July 20, 2017, 06:36:23 AM
I thought i was cracking up. I went into View>Options>Ladder>Editing and unchecked Automatically Show Element Picker.
I added a couple program blocks and it popped up again when I was editing those added programs. I went in and seen the check mark back in the box. I finally realized you have to uncheck that box for each program you create. The options are different for each program. Could you possibly add another sub-check box to say do this for all programs created?

I had a similar question a while back.

Already there (see attached).

Look at the Apply Options To checkbox list at the top of most of the Options tabs.  You can select from any/all

You probably want to check all 3.

Ehh, I need to stop that sucker popping up too. My problem is I don't program enough to get any better, I plateaued a long time ago so I don't get much from great new features because I don't remember them.

This is one of those things that even after 20 years of dealing with DirectSoft which uses the same idea, I still forget to check the boxes at the top.  It's a neat feature, but not really what I think customers expect to happen.

The alternative is to make options global and instant. That's probably more intuitive, but does take away an ability that some may use. I generally leave my defaults in Bob Mode (only nicknames...nothing else) because it allows me to see the maximum amount of logic, but at times I'll turn on rung comments in a view.

This is NOT related to the Element Picker option, but the Documentation options.

In Designer 2.0, we added a "toggle documentation" hot key to Ctrl+/ (control-forward-slash) in the Ladder View.  When you are online looking at status, or just looking at logic offline, sometimes you want to see MORE logic temporarily.  One way to do that is to turn off Rung Comments, Nicknames, Extra Info, and Descriptions, but it's a slight hassle to turn those all of, look at what you needed to look at, then quickly go back and turn those back on to what you had previously.

Hence, the Ctrl+/ is very quick and easy to toggle between your current doc settings and having all doc turned OFF.  If you are like me, you have large rung comments sometimes, and they take up a lot of real estate.  Useful, but I don't need to see them ALL THE TIME (especially online with STATUS ON).  Ctrl+/ it's OFF, Ctrl+/ it's back on.

Very convenient.

What I really meant was that customers tend to think that the change will apply to everything all of the time since that is what most things of this nature do, but the reality is that it will only apply to "New Views".  IE it isn't meeting expectation due to the default selection.

Right. That's what I meant by global and instant.
