Title: Do-more Simulator Connection Issues
Post by: sgsims on December 01, 2016, 11:13:22 AM
Love the Do-more platform!

I am having some troubles establishing a connection to the simulator on my laptop running Windows 7 (Home Premium).

In order to establish a connection I am having to select the comm port from the "Sim" pull down menu before attempting to connect via the do-more designer.  It usually takes two connection attempts after selecting the comm port.  The first attempt the "Link enabled" check box is not checked for the sim so I "check" it then attempt to connect.  During the second attempt the checkbox is already "checked" and the connection attempt is successful.

Wondering if it is some setting or some part of my connection process that is out of sequence.

Scott

The default connection to the Sim uses the local host address of 127.0.0.1 through the network stack. The serial port setup shouldn't have anything to do with it, unless the serial settings are causing the Sim to hang...which I guess is a possibility. I'm don't guess the laptop has any serial ports?

Wondering about having to manually enable the link? We normally re-enable the link automatically when you attempt to connect to it, but I have some vague recollection that there might have been a bug in that. We're still about two months away from a new release, but I'm think that might be fixed.

Hi Bob,

I tried a different connection sequence...this time I didn't need to select the comm port.  No my laptop does not have any serial ports.

If I have a project open in Designer I have trouble connecting to the simulator.  If I select the actual link in the launchpad window and select "Open" it closes my current designer project and then opens the simulator..from there I can open my project in designer then connect to the simulator just fine.

It seems my issue might be that the Simulator doesn't launch into RUN and PWR mode On automatically.  I have to "wake" it up it seems by selecting any of the 2 pull down menus..then it magically comes alive making connection possible.  Should it automatically launch into RUN and PWR on mode or does that happen as part of the designer connecting to the simulator?

Anyway I'll keep playing with it.

It should come up in whatever mode it was in when closed, and should not require any intervention. It sounds like something is hanging it up a bit when it first starts.
