I have noticed an issue where DmD 1.4.3 has started hanging up on start. The symptoms are, if I have my VPN connected, no problems from DmD at all. If I don't have the VPN connected, DmD hangs, or gets so slow it might as well be hung.
I was last working online with an H2-DM1E at the office via VPN from home. I don't recall whether I went offline before closing DmD, but probably not as I don't recall having to save again afterward.
I just went back online (still connected to VPN), disconnected from PLC, saved and exited. DmD fired right back up fine. Closed DmD and disconnected from the VPN. DmD hangs on starting. The biggest difference I note is the Designer window opens transparently first and sits there. Usually, the links get tested before Designer opens the GUI.
So I closed it, and connected to the VPN. Opened OK. Removed all the recent projects from the launchpad (did not delete the files), closed DmD, disconnected from VPN, DmD opens as it should with links getting checked before GUI starts.
I may have had multiple versions of projects in the launchpad that had been closed without disconnecting.
So what exactly am I needing to do differently? I have only recently had this behavior start - my own behavior has been pretty constant as I usually don't disconnect before exiting.

We've heard of this one several times. If you would contact support@hosteng.com, we'd like to with with you to get it resolved in time for the next release.

I'll do what I can. It has to be in the evenings on my end since the VPN is at the office. I have not tried to VPN while on the network there.

@Mike Nash, we here at Host have not yet been able to duplicate this issue on our PCs which makes it difficult to troubleshoot. However, there are a couple of PCs at Automation Direct that also show this failure. We are working closely with them to see if we can figure this elusive issue out. I don't want to have to utilize your time and even more remote PC unless we really have to. So, stay tuned. I'm gonna rattle the cage again...

Hopefully HOST has found a solution to this.
As far as the VPN, it may just be coincidental, Web Browser has also seemed to be a trigger. I just finally discovered that a lot of the issues seem to be CSMainDM.exe related. While it is running, before it allows DmD to open, clicking on anything on the desktop just causes a windows default beep and nothing else. All of that clears as soon as CSMainDM is finished checking links. The lockups seem to be happening when it does not finish. At that point I usually find I have to stop explorer.exe in Task Manager WinXP and then run explorer.exe.
