Title: H2-CTRIO2 in H2-EBC100 Remote Base
Post by: Mike Nash on March 09, 2016, 12:24:27 PM
Maybe a quick question. Is there a performance hit for having H2-CTRIO2s in a remote base with H2-EBC100 off the H2-DM1E ethernet port?

I have an H2-DM1E, 3 ea 32 point DC inputs, 2 ea 32 point DC outputs, 3 ea H2-CTRIO2s, and one combo 4/2 analog card.

This puts me one slot shy in a 9-slot rack, hence the locally mounted H2-EBC100 rack.

I am step/direction controlling 3 servos, (with encoder feedback on each just to verify it really got there.) I could most likely use just 2 CTRIO2s, but uniformity is nice. Putting the extra base in near the servo drives also cuts down lead length for the reference pulses. It also leaves some expansion room.

So can I put the CTRIO2s in the "expansion" rack without any speed issues?

Edit: There will also be a 15" C-more on the H2-DM1E ethernet port.

Depends on what you mean by performance hit. For most applications it should be pretty transparent, but yes, more comms do have a cost and there will be increased latency. It's quick though, and I doubt you'll see it in practice.

Thanks BobO. I was pretty sure that was the case but thought it was safer to ask. I have plenty of time for the moves as long as the servos follow their reference. I do need precise positioning, but no coordinated moves.
