Title: DirectSoft 5 sturtup problems
Post by: Michal on April 06, 2007, 01:45:36 AM
Hi,

I have installed DirectSoft5 on my Acer Notebook and after instalation with no errors or problems it's impossible to start DsLaunch. I get no error meesage or warning, the application siply doesn't look up. there are standard XP SP2 on my nb. Coul'd there be a problem in configuration? There isn't any seriar port right now, so coul'd this be solved by customizing the ini file? I have tried myself, but with no success.

The free demo of DirectSoft shows the same behaviour.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks, Michal / CZ

Michal,

We are seeing this occuring in very limited situations (maybe 5-10 installations?), but we have not figured it out.  There is a problem during the "loading" of the program in a system DLL, NT.DLL - our software has not even officially "started running" yet.  Our research shows other applications running on some installations of XP SP2 having similar problems.

Some theories out there on the various bboards think its some Vista code that is in IE7, in combination with XP SP2.  One developer who worked on IE7 says that it cannot be, because the Vista version of IE7 that is installed is different binary from the one on SP2.  Other's have said it is due to having a Beta version of IE7 and then installing the release version of IE7, there is still some "buggy beta" code out there.  ???

However, NONE of this helps you.  We have been able to duplicate the problem in house on one of our "new" computers,  but the crash occurs in a system DLL during the load, and there is nothing on the "call stack" of our code (it's all o/s code from NT.DLL).

Try running Windows Update for your O/S and for IE7???  If that doesn't work, possibly try uninstalling IE7, putting on IE6.  If DSP works, you may then try installing another browser or even IE7 again???

i appear to be having a simular problem, installed your latest version and now i cannot open the program i receive an error 1003 - Invalled API Version in module: C\DIRECTSOFT5\PROGRAM\BIN\PGRM50.DLL. I tried to uninstall but that also fails i would really like to get in and start doing some programming!

the problem you're describing is not the same as the earlier guy mentioned, they get no response at all from DirectSOFT, at least you're getting a response !!

Error 1003 is usually symptomatic of having more than one version of DirectSOFT on a PC. You mentioned an error during an uninstall, what did you do after the unistall error? manually delete the DirectSOFT5 folder? or reinstall?

Finally got it to work by using the cd and uninstalling it from there. tried reinstalling it from the cd but it would refuse to install then tried reinstalling from the dl zip file - that worked but stoped with an error stating that the bin loc is in use. i told it to postpone installing that till after rebooting and it worked can now program .. thank god.

ok back to work...
