My laptop (Dell XPS) does not have an available COM1 or COM2. I have to connect a USB to Serial adaptor, and my available communication port is COM4. How can I use this to connect to my KOYO DL450?
Thanks,
John Bowers

Depending on your version of DirectSOFT, there is a DSx00.INI file ("x" is the version number of DirectSOFT; e.g. DirectSOFT5 uses DS500.INI) that you need to edit to enable the use of COM4 from DirectSOFT. Please see these 2 FAQs:
http://www.hosteng.com/FAQFiles/DirectSOFT.htm#FAQ0008
http://www.hosteng.com/FAQFiles/DirectSOFT.htm#FAQ0204
Basically, you edit this file and change the line:
COM4Enable=1
...and then restart DirectSOFT, and COM4 will be available to make a link to.

I apologize for not getting back to this subject sooner. I still haven't taken the time to follow your procedure, but I will very soon.
I have been using my USB by re-assigning it to COM1 through my device manager. However, each time I power up my computer, it automatically assigns this port to an internal bluetooth device. I have to "uninstall" the bluetooth in order to use the USB for COM1. It's a pain when I forget to do so, as the DirectSoft boot-up goes awry and I end up practically doing a line dance to get back to the project.
I will work on setting my system for COM4 this week.
Thanks,
