In DMD 1.4.1, the Toolbar Zoom dropdown function when clicked on and select zoom level 85% or any other, will zoom to level 35% by default. Acts like it's it stuck at 35%.
-
I could not duplicate this. Starting with a new instance of Designer and with a new project, please provide the steps to duplicate it. Thanks!!
-
This is the same problem I have had from the first install of 1.3 anyway. It does it on this machine XPSP2 with 1.3.1 (no 1.4 on it yet.) I reported it way back on the forum but can't locate it now.
Freshly opened, New Offline Project, click on Zoom and any choice is 35%.
I saw this on another one of my machines with 1.4.1 also (probably also XPSP2 as SP3 broke some PLC stuff.) Though I want to say it worked on one of them too. I just got into the habit of using the + - icons afterwards. You know - if it's broke, don't use it.
-
Well I did everything! Uninstalled both 1.3 & 1.4, deleted the directories, installed 1.4 again and still the same zoom to 35% no matter which zoom level I select. I even went into NVIDIA Control Panel and tried all the settings for DMD 1.4. Still the same results. Here is a list of the equipment I'm using:
Operating System
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3
Motherboard
ASRock 990FX Professional
Graphics
512MB NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GT (ASUStek Computer Inc)
Dual display
1920x1080@60Hz
1920x1080@60Hz

Also before I uninsulated 1.3, I checked it also and it did the same thing. DMD is the only application on my computer that does this. All other apps work fine.
-
Try updating your mouse driver.
-
Try updating your mouse driver.
I'll pass on this option as I have at least three different mice and drivers, one being the laptop's touchpad. All 3 machines have this issue.
As an additional note, clicking on the zoom "tool" (I don't know what this is called) and then using up and down arrows on the keyboard to select size and then pressing <Enter> still jumps to 35%.
-
If you use the Ctrl+mouse wheel, do you get the various zoom levels, or still only get 35%?
-
On my computers it is only the pull down pick list window that exhibits the 35% behavior. The Zoom In and Zoom Out Menu selections and toolbar icons work, as does the keyboard combos and the <Ctrl>+mouse wheel.
-
The mouse driver is part of Windows 7 and the ctrl-MouseWheel function works. Maybe it's because I have multiple monitors. Not going to unplug one just to try. On machines at work with a single monitor works fine, but on mine at home with multiple monitors, it does not. Also the machines at work are all Intel processors and mine is AMD.
-
Maybe it's because I have multiple monitors.
Almost all of us here at Host have multi-monitors, so I doubt that is your cause. :-\

As does everyone at AutomationDirect. We also run the various versions of Windows as well. Hence why I suggested the mouse driver as it is one of the most likely suspects to cause issues. We run into mouse and video driver issues on a fairly regular basis in technical support.

I can't even find a drop-down for zoom.... Where is this said button? I have all my toolbars turned off, but can't seem to find which toolbar has this... The normal zoom all seems to work just fine on my machine.
-
In my case, the Zoom pulldown is in the Offline bar (what I would consider the main/default bar: Open, Save, New, Backup, Edit, etc.). I have no idea if the Zoom pulldown was there by default or if I customized it on there. I know I typically add the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons and those aren't there, so my suspicion is that I haven't customized, or at least not very much, since installing v1.4.

The drop down combo box is on the Offline toolbar, between the (Find Next) Output and Options buttons.
See the attached screen shot.
-
OK. I found it. It works fine on mine...
-
I haven't got time to try this right now, but I still need to install 1.4 on this computer and I'll try to do it tomorrow and test this idea. My coworker just fired up his (v1.2 :o), all defaults still, and the zoom icon works. I, on the other hand, have customized all of my installs as far as the toolbars go. I know I saw that zoom icon once work somewhere on one of mine, but no more.
So, does it matter if the toolbars have been customized?
-
I don't think that can be the sole issue, because I usually customize and I haven't seen this issue. (Core 2 Duo Laptop, 2.4Ghz, 8GB, 1920x1200 NVidia, Win7 64; Core i7 Desktop, 16GB, 1920x1200, Win7 64 bit)

To duplicate the bug, that may be THE critical point. We will play with it a little...
-
This is one of my not yet optimized copies if it helps.

So far, I can report that I can reliably break the zoom icon. But I can't tell what it was I did.
I installed a new copy of V1.4.1 on a computer (XP SP2) that has only had v1.3.1 on it.
I installed from the zip download at ADC, not using the upgrade button.
I let it put everything at the default locations (which I don't usually do due to C:\ bloat.)
Zoom icon worked fine.
I added Zoom In and Zoom Out icons - still good.
I changed to small icons - still good.
I changed to text only - still good.
I removed some of the unwanted icons - still good.
Exited and restarted DMD - still good.
Changed DmDesigner1_4.ini DecimalDigits=4 to 6 - still good.
Changed some other items in options, but not in Ladder View - still good.
Up to this point I had exited and restarted a number of times but not at every change.
I now exited and restarted and Zoom icon now always goes to 35% when any value is clicked. Always and forever.
I have tried putting the ini back, resetting as many options as I could remember except toobar settings, exit and restart - always broken.
Is there an easy way to reset back to scratch without uninstalling? I will try again if so.
-
Zoom Icon Break Located (I think)
As much as possible, I reset everything without reinstalling DMD 1.4.1.
To break it I only have to uncheck Help in the Offline Toolbar, exit and restart.
To "repair" it, I check it back, exit, restart and the Zoom icon works again.
I tried checking all the Online and Offline buttons to "on" in DMD 1.3.1 but no joy there. It has a lot of customizations and I don't care to change it.
-
Wow, even I can replicate that one :)
Just goes to show that turning off all toolbars is the only way to go! ;D
-
I can duplicate it. I should be able to fix it.

Ha! It took me nearly that long just to figure out some way to reliably make it happen.
Will this be in a future version or ... ?
Thanks.

We were planning on it working in 1.0 ;D
It will be in the next release, which is actually due out "soon".

I've been going through the registry with Regedit and found a lot of old DMDesigner version that are no longer installed. Do you have a clean-up utility to remove all the old unused registry entries and unused other files? I have no plans to reinstall any of the old versions.

1.4.2 is now "shipping" with this fix (along with a few cool features).
See the announcement here:

I have updated today and haven't yet tried the zoom, but the cut and paste is very welcome.
-
Some nice goodies in 1.4.2 (and we get them EARLY!)
Thanks, Hosties!! :)
-
I just downloaded 1.4.2 at home (sooo much faster than work) and tested the zoom icon as fixed! Yea!
It took a bit to find how to turn the new drag and drop toolbar off (set to manual). It's probably nice, but... I'll play with it later to give it a fair test. I was never wild about having to use RSLogix's instruction bar as it wastes far too much time, especially on a smaller monitor. This one looks to use a bit much screen space, especially on this 1280x1024 screen I have at home. ( I know that's not what you like to hear, sorry. )

By default, the Instruction Toolbox shows up when you go into Edit Mode. By right-clicking on the Instruction Toolbox window, you can configure when you want to see it to 2 other possible settings:
- Show Always
- Show Manually (i.e. don't show it until I use the Edit->Instruction Toolbox menu item or Ladder toolbar's Instruction Toolbox button)
Some other work-arounds:
- Turn OFF Instruction Descriptions and Hot Keys, and then reduce the Toolbox width. Or just reduce the width regardless (the text for each instruction in the list will wrap). The layout is saved with each project's workspace.
- Auto-hide (click on the push-pin). When you need it, just float your mouse over the tab or click on the tab to reveal it when you need it. This works for any/all dockable/floatable views.
Like most things in Designer, tool usage is highly configurable and optional!

Yea! Does work now.

You can undock the instruction toolbox.
